Dog practicing balance exercises in canine fitness class in Austin

If you’re looking for canine fitness classes in Austin, TX, our Canine Movement Foundations Class is the perfect starting point. This class helps dogs build strength, balance, and body awareness while giving owners a structured way to support long-term health and performance. This class is part of our broader Austin dog fitness program and is ideal for dogs needing structured movement training, strength building, and guided exercise. Here's everything you need to know in this class. We'll be going over some FAQ about our Canine Movement Foundation Class in Austin that may be beneficial to know before enrolling.

What is Canine Movement Foundations Class in Austin, TX?

Our Canine Movement Foundations Class is a drop-in class that takes place at Epic Canine in West Austin (7112 Oak Shores Dr., Austin, TX 78730). As of writing this, this is the only class in process taking place at 7pm and lasts for about an hour.

It's a semi-private lab/clinic, but not too rehab-like. You and your dog can work alongside others and at your own pace. Our certified canine fitness trainer, who leads these classes, Steven Tallas, CSCC, will be walking around sharing tips and suggesting tweaks in your teachings.

What are the benefits of having my dog enroll in Canine Movement Foundations Classes?

These classes teach dogs how to perform better, feel good, and further build that bond with you. It's that simple. Let's not get too technical. You may have been to classes, whether they are obedience or sports, where you teach your dog some neat skills and engage in cool activities. Canine fitness can combine those and add extra benefits like preventing overall injury, keeping your dog active for longer, and performing better at their sport or daily life tasks.

What Age Can Dogs Start Canine Movement Training?

Your dog can enroll at any age over 12 weeks! For younger pups, we'll be working on socialization, confidence building, and exposure to low obstacles. For older dogs, we can work on performance goals and skills like strength, balance, flexibility, and body awareness, and build towards speed and power. All dogs start with the foundations, as it's one of the most important skills to learn before getting to the heavy-duty stuff.

Who Leads the Canine Fitness Classes in Austin?

Our certified canine fitness trainer, Steven Tallas, leads these classes. Studying about 13 years in canine behavior, he has taken a keen interest in canine movement training and how dogs function both inside and out. Find out more about him here.

Does my dog need to do a physical assessment before enrolling for class?

A dedicated physical assessment is recommended. This gives Steven time to check for any inconsistencies or imbalances that your dog may have. A physical assessment at Epic Canine is $100. Costs may vary.

Do you offer private lessons separate from group class?

We do offer private lessons either at the pet owner's home or at Epic Canine. Please contact Venture Dog Training for more locations offering this in the future. For more information about private lessons, check out our private lessons page.

Can my dog join if they are reactive to other dogs and/or people?

It's recommended to contact Venture Dog Training and explain what's going on and your dog's specific needs. Private lesson fitness coaching, or our behavior consulting, may be the best option for y'all, and that's okay. We work to make sure we're working with what is best for your dog.

Are these classes only held in Austin, TX?

At the time of this writing, Steven only teaches in our local to Austin, TX. However, we can offer virtual lessons if interested in working with him.
